Old but still valid: good folders to exclude from Time Machine backups.
Downloads is the optimum folder to avoid if you don’t frequently have a clear out. Saves those precious GB! Another to exclude that has arisen since the article was posted is Dropbox, which automatically saves a backup of all your files.

Tells you where you can get to in 15 minutes using public transport. Only a couple of cities supported in the UK so far but looks promising. Could be useful for those 30 minute lunch/coffee-breaks.
